Refractory Brick
What we supply
Structural integrity, chemical resistance, decades of service.
Refractory brick delivers structural integrity, chemical resistance, and long service life in the most demanding industrial furnaces, kilns, and boilers operating today. Selection starts with chemistry — and chemistry is driven by the process. Red Stick Industrial Supply sources all major brick classifications from producers who meet ASTM specifications.
Fireclay Brick
Standard and super-duty for industrial furnaces, boilers, and incinerators. Service 2,600–2,900°F. Cost-effective, widely available, compatible with fireclay mortar systems.
High-Alumina Brick
50%–99% alumina for progressively higher service temperatures and resistance to acidic slags, chemical attack, and reducing atmospheres. The backbone of modern kiln and furnace construction.
Silica Brick
95%+ SiO₂ for coke ovens, glass tank crowns, and soaking pits. Excellent load-bearing strength at temperature. Must be heated slowly through the inversion temperature range.
Magnesia & MgCr Brick
Basic chemistry for basic slag — EAF roofs, BOF, copper smelters, and cement kilns. Withstands temperatures to 4,000°F and resists lime, iron oxide, and steel slag.
Insulating Firebrick (IFB)
K-20 through K-30 for backup insulation and lower-temp hot-face. Lightweight, easily cut and shaped on-site, essential for multi-layer furnace wall design.
Silicon Carbide & Specialty
SiC for abrasion resistance and thermal conductivity. Zirconia for glass tanks and special chemical environments. Carbon and graphite for aluminum and non-ferrous smelting.
All standard shapes in stock — special shapes sourced to your drawing
ASTM standard shapes — the 9" straight, arch, side arch, wedge, and key — cover the majority of furnace construction. Red Stick Industrial Supply stocks standard shapes in the most common grades. Special shapes are available from producers on a quote basis. Provide a drawing and we'll source them.

Brick quality and grading
Not all refractory brick is equal. Chemistry, fired density, cold crushing strength, apparent porosity, and pyrometric cone equivalent (PCE) are all meaningful quality indicators.
- Request mill certificates for all critical applications
- Verify PCE rating matches service temperature requirement
- Lower apparent porosity generally means better chemical resistance
- Inspect shipments for physical damage before installation begins
Mortar compatibility
The mortar joint is only as good as the match between mortar and brick chemistry. Always confirm compatibility before ordering.
- Fireclay brick: fireclay mortar, air-set or heat-set
- High-alumina brick: matching-alumina mortar, ceramic bond preferred
- Silica brick: silica mortar only — no fireclay mortar in silica systems
- Magnesia/basic brick: basic mortar — never acidic fireclay mortar
