Monolithic Castables
What we supply
Seamless. Jointless. Pour it, gun it, ram it.
Monolithic refractories replaced fired brick as the dominant industrial lining material for a reason. Faster installation, seamless hot face, ease of repair, and the ability to form any geometry make them the preferred choice for new construction and major relining projects. Red Stick Industrial Supply stocks the full range of grades, densities, and bond systems.
Dense Castable
High-strength, high-density for structural floors, hearths, tap holes, and hot-face applications requiring maximum abrasion and erosion resistance. Alumina 40–99%, service to 3,400°F in specialty grades.
Low-Cement Castable (LCC)
Reduced calcium aluminate cement for improved refractoriness, lower porosity, and better performance in reducing atmospheres and slag environments. The premium workhorse of modern refractories.
Ultra-Low & No-Cement
ULCC and zero-cement formulations bonded by colloidal silica or microsilica. Maximum hot strength, minimal CaO contamination. Critical for steel, non-ferrous, and petrochemical applications.
Insulating Castable
Lightweight aggregate castable for backup zones and lower-temperature applications. Densities 30–80 PCF, service to 2,800°F. Pour or gun into irregular shapes.
Gunning Mix
Formulated for pneumatic application. Dry or wet-gunning grades for patch repairs, overhead work, and large areas where forming would be impractical. Reduces installation labor on complex geometries.
Plastic & Ramming Mix
Pre-tempered, hand-rammable refractory for patches and repairs where casting is impractical. Fireclay, high-alumina, and specialty formulations. Extended shelf life with moisture barrier packaging.
Dry-out: the step that cannot be skipped
Every castable lining must follow a controlled dry-out and heat-up schedule. Rushing drives out moisture too fast, creating steam pressure that cracks or spalls the lining before it enters service. Red Stick Industrial Supply provides dry-out schedules with every castable product, and our team can develop a site-specific schedule for your installation.

Mixing and water addition
Castable performance is directly dependent on water addition. Too much water increases porosity, reduces strength, and lowers refractoriness. Always use the minimum required for placement.
- Use clean, potable water — avoid high-sulfate or high-chloride sources
- Mix to manufacturer's specified water range — never exceed it
- Mechanical mixer required; hand mixing is inadequate for low-cement castables
- Place within working time: typically 20–45 minutes depending on formulation
- Cure in forms 24 hours minimum before stripping
Selecting the right grade
Answer these questions before specifying a castable grade:
- Hot-face or backup application?
- Oxidizing, reducing, or carburizing atmosphere?
- Slag or chemical contact expected?
- Continuous service or severe thermal cycling?
- Abrasion or erosion by particulate or gas velocity?
- Vibration casting, conventional casting, or gunning?
